Fishing At The Central Coast

Fishermen and fish anglers have enough reason to cheer about the Central Coast. It is well-known as angler’s paradise and offers excellent fishing opportunities that vary from rock and surf fishing along the coastline to angling at multiple lakes, estuary and river systems. Let’s have a sneak peek of some of the best fishing locations of Central Coast.

Lake Munmorah - Lake Munmorah at the Northern end of the Central Coast offers excellent fishing opportunities for angling enthusiasts. This lake acts as a perfect venue for varieties like beam, tailor and flathead. The Munmorah power station regarded as the prime spot for fishing can yield a variety of fish including luderick, trevally, bream, long Tom and tailor. At the south end of the lake you can also find big catch like Bream, luderick and tarwhine.

Norah head - Norah head comes as a perfect venue for the enthusiastic and fervent anglers. This acts as a perfect venue for the pelagic varieties such as tailor and tuna as well as snapper, gropper, rock blackfish and drummer that are attracted to the rocky washes and gutters. Well, to the north along the Birdie beach you will find good surf fishing for Tailor. For outside fishing, you can avail an ocean boat ramp, located at the cabbage tree harbor.

Budgewoi Lake - Budgewoi Lake is a very popular spot in the North West corner. The lake is synonymous with the Bream catch. This is the place where heated waters are expelled and this attracts a range of species including tailor, whiting, flathead, luderick and bream in big numbers. To the west of the lake, you will find Wallarah Creek that works particularly well when the lake roughs up attracting bream and luderick.

The Entrance - The Entrance comes as a channel where the Tuggerah lake system meets the Pacific Ocean. The channel is also known for its prawn runs. As it flows fast, prawning is usually done when the tide is slack or turning. East of the entrance bridge is a top spot, drifting for bream, flathead and whiting while the west of the Pelican island stand a chance of landing large flathead that lie in wait for their prey on the edge of the channel. On the other hand, North entrance breach serves as a good spot for whiting and tailor during their runs.

Wamberal beach - Tailor, bream and flathead are the targets at the Wamberal beach. The entrance of Wamberal lagoon attracts large mulloway and tailor waiting the flushing of baitfish out to the sea.

Things to remember while you go fishing at Central Coast

  • When fishing in NSW waters, both fresh and salt water you   are required by law to carry a NSW fishing license.
  • As there are size limits, anglers often engage themselves in catching fish which by law must be returned to the water. Anglers can also join tag and release programs too.
  • While measuring a fish, whether it is fork-tailed or round tailed, it is taken from the snout on the upper jaw to the end of the tail.
